High schooler totally pwns Karl Rove on gay marriage

ThinkProgress.org reports that a high-schooler peppered Karl Rove with questions about gay marriage at a recent Rove appearance at a New England prep school, leaving the former Bush lackey without a leg to stand on.

Choate senior Marla Spivack challenged Rove on the assertion that giving gay couples the right to marry somehow endangers other people. Rove first dodged the issue, saying it should be decided by a legislature or by voters but not by the court, but Spivack pressed her point, asking again how gay marriage threatens anyone. Rove then responded by asking what the compelling reason was to throw out 5,000 years of tradition, which Spivack countered by noting that reversing laws against interracial marriage did the same thing.

When Rove tried bringing up the Declaration of Independence, Spivack retorted that the document's assertion of the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness backed her argument. Rove finally wiggled out of the discussion by asking Spivack when she was running for office.
