If by "top" you mean "biggest twit"
If you ever want to puncture the old notion that gays have been magically endowed with good taste, just point to any recent survey where gays are asked to pick the "best" anything. In recent years, our queer brothers have named The Birdcage the best gay movie ever, and now AfterElton.com readers have chosen Queer as Folk's Brian Kinney the Top Gay Character in Television.
Where to begin? Does one point out that the character was always so ridiculously written as to make him look like an alien visitor from Planet Asshat? Does one note that Brian Kinney is presented as the anchor for a group of dysfunctional friends when, in real life, no one would want to spend more than five minutes with someone so despicably narcissistic and shallow? The mind reels.
Survey respondents did, at least, give props to some interesting characters, including Degrassi: The Next Generation's Marco (#24), My So-Called Life's Rickie (#15), Six Feet Under's Keith (#20) and David (#8), The Simpsons' Waylon Smithers (#18), and As the World Turns's Noah (#16) and Luke (#6).
Mr. Sardonic, of course, can't believe there was no love for The Sarah Silverman Program's Steve and Brian.
